How to Automatically Redirect Customers to Their Native Language

You can ensure your international customers see the right language the moment they land on your store by enabling automatic redirection. This feature is built into Shopify and works seamlessly with the translations you create in Translingo.

How it works:
When active, Shopify detects your customer's browser language. If you have that language published and assigned to their market, the store will automatically switch to match. For example, a customer from France with their browser set to French will be instantly redirected to your /fr store.

How to activate redirection:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Preferences.

  2. Scroll down to the Automatic redirection section.

  3. Toggle the Language switch to active.

  4. Click Save.

What you need to check first:
For the redirect to work, ensure you have completed these steps for your target language:

  • Add the language to your store in Translingo.

  • Assign the language to the correct Shopify Market.

  • Add your translations (using a Translingo Task or manual edit).

  • Ensure the language is Published.
