A language selector is more than just a button; it’s the entry point for your international customers. Here is how to ensure it provides a great user experience:

1. Placement is Key
While our floating selector is convenient, place it where customers expect to find it. The most common locations are:

  • Bottom Left or Right: Ideal for mobile users as it’s within thumb-reach.

  • The Header: If your theme supports a native selector, prioritize using it there as it is the most standard location for desktop users.

2. Don't Hide It
Avoid placing the selector behind deep menus. If a customer lands on your site and can't read the language, they need an immediate, visible way to switch. Our App Embed ensures the selector stays visible even as the customer scrolls.

3. Use Localized Language Names
Translingo automatically displays languages in their own native script (e.g., "Deutsch" instead of "German"). This is crucial because a user who doesn't speak English might not recognize the English name for their own language.

4. Combine with Shopify Markets
Ensure your languages are correctly mapped to your Shopify Markets. When a user selects a language, you want to make sure they are also seeing the correct currency and shipping options for their region.

5. Test on Mobile
Always open your store on a smartphone after enabling the selector. Make sure it doesn't cover important UI elements like your "Chat with us" button or the "Add to Cart" sticky bar. You can use the Spacing sliders in the App Embed settings to move it out of the way of other apps.
